Thursday 5th August

The weather has continued to be just lovely.  It was gorgeous yesterday for the Cape Clear regatta.
Today started warm and clear.  At 2pm it is a little overcast but still an excellent day for walking the Cape hills.

We do believe that we owe the normal unwitting visitors to our lovely island an apology for the scenes witnessed in the North Harbour on regatta day. Just too many young and not so young hangers-on (to the yachting scene) drinking too much and behaving in a way unbecoming of the welcome we offer on a daily basis.  All we can say in our defence is that not one single Cape Clear inhabitant was involved in the awful shenanigans.

Last night, after a last minute switch from the North Harbour, the Cape Clear Hostel hosted a true tour de force - a one man play Catalpa performed by Andrew Musselman. To say that it was intimate would be an understatement.

Today we are back to our tranquil best. Most of the yachts and hangers on of the yachting scene have departed to swill and drink elsewhere - beware Schull they are on their way.

Too many people are failing to wear sunblock and are ending up with sunburn. Stop being  a falsetto hero and put that sunblock on. This applies especially when you are near the sea.

Dispose of plastic wrappings safely and you might just be saving the life of a Leatherback Turtle.

Water shortages on Cape, please use water sparingly.
