04 October, 2010

Wet or Dry:
Dry at 9am but will rain for a short while later.
Wind driven rain has just started 11.15am but JKG*  is not troubled and continues to carve lumps out of the hillside.
Should become dry at 3pm.
*(similar to a JCB but actually human organism - the wife - Janet Keeps Gardening)

Birds
All quiet thanks to a bit of a wind, which raises the possibility of some rarities being blown in.

Chickens x 5:  Maggie; Oraiste; Teapot; Billybob; Ginger
Plumage: looking good
Eggs: 4

Flowers
Montbretia is practically gone.
Fuschia is full of bees buzzing.
Marigolds are gorgeous.
Geraniums are in flower.
Too many flowers to mention.
Sinead is become machine: she has done so much digging and clearing of roots, bracken, brambles etc. on the hillside behind the hostel, that we have started calling her JKG see above.

Vegetables from the walled garden
Lettuce
Onion
Carrots
Spinach
Cabbage
Beetroot
Potatoes
Planted turnips

Sunny or Cloudy:
Overcast at 9am; might clear after the rain - it has cleared every day recently.

Temperature:
Still very mild

Windy or Still:
A bit of a wind. The wind has stiffened and is driving the rain - I love it like this. 12.30pm the wind has become gusty and is heading for force 8 later this eveing.

Sea Condition:
A pronounced ripple. Getting rougher as the wind rips it up - you should be here as a storm develops it is wonderful.

Tides  - approx:
High:  02.53
Low :  09.22
High:  15.29
Low :  22.00
Using 24 hour clock

Water Shortages
Please use water sparingly as water is still rationed on Cape

Fishing:
Worth a try later if the wind drops.

Thought for today:
Every social problem, no matter how large, is an issue between neighbours which becomes insurmountable, until enough generations have passed to leave the current neighbours  wondering why they disagree.
Ferries:
Should be as normal today but we recommend checking the ferry web site if you are travelling any great distance, click the link: Cape Clear Island Ferries.com
